In some cases, it is not possible to simply refurbish existing luminaires. In such situations, the challenge is to remain true to the original design, while at the same time making changes to the luminaire that are necessary for functional reasons. An example of this is the St. Maria project in Schramberg. We wanted to retain the shape of the luminaires, but needed additional light levels for general lighting and liturgy. We therefore added two further luminaire elements and adapted their colour to the existing system.
It can also happen that no historical luminaires are available. In such cases, the task is to create luminaires from existing architecture, as in the Deutsches Haus in Flensburg, a historic space where we transformed existing room elements into a luminaire. Although these room elements served as light sources during the building's construction, they were replaced by chandeliers in the post-war period, and no trace of the old luminaires could be found. To introduce more variable light into the room without compromising the architecture, we converted them to LED.
Our work revolves around individual, project-specific lighting solutions. We collaborate closely with conservationists, architects, and art historians to strike a balance between preserving historical heritage and meeting functional requirements.
