Light for a new chapter between wine and sea

On Föhr, right in the middle of the UNESCO Wadden Sea World Heritage Site, the winery Waalem in Nieblum has created a place that combines viticulture, indulgence, and hospitality: alongside the actual winery, which has been cultivating robust grape varieties such as Johanniter and Solaris on land close to the sea for over ten years, an entirely new building housing an event location has been built - situated directly by the sea and now also a popular venue for weddings.

For this project, we took charge of the complete lighting design for the new building: from the foyer through the winemaking area to the wine cellar in the basement, a carefully considered lighting concept runs throughout, using fine lines of light to create an atmospheric base mood and staging each room according to its function. In addition, our color-coordinated solo wall lights create attractive focal points and orientation markers.

A special highlight: the art piece of a polar bear, created by a renowned French artist. Targeted accent lighting puts the sculpture in the right light without overexposing it.

One of the most demanding tasks was the refurbishment of existing Murano glass chandeliers: the delicate, multi-part originals were carefully converted to modern LED technology - work that required particular care due to the large number of individual glass elements and their delicate craftsmanship, so that the character of the historic fixtures would be fully preserved.
