Hanover, State Museum

In cooperation with Studio DL, we renovated part of the lighting in the Lower Saxony State Museum Hannover. The museum, completed in 1902 in Neo-Renaissance style, is divided into various sections, with the top floor dedicated to art. The original daylight ceiling had to be closed for maintenance reasons. To support the new artificial light ceiling, Studio DL planned coved lighting. The cove not only meets the lighting requirements but also emphasizes the ceiling's architecture.

Several sampling tests were carried out to determine the correct spacing and light color. The combination of coving and light ceiling creates an even, balanced light that optimizes the viewing of artworks. The challenge was to design the lighting in such a way that it optimally stages the artworks while respecting the building's historic architecture.

Through careful planning and sampling, we were able to ensure that the light is both functional and aesthetically pleasing. The light color was chosen to highlight the natural colors of the artworks without distorting them.
